Sandwiches with Smoky Tempeh Slices and Green Tomato JamSo, late last night my husband and I took some of that homemade green tomato jam and some smoky tempeh slices, and sandwiched it between two pieces of toasted sprouted grain bread.  Oh, was that ever a tasty combination.  Loved it so much I made it again for lunch today as an open-faced sandwich and served it up with some fresh strawberries and celery sticks.

The recipe for smoky tempeh slices comes from Trina at Your Vegan Mom.  While you're over there grabbing that recipe, click on over to her Seitan Soft Tacos made with a Green Tomato Simmer Sauce.  Doesn't that look great?  My neighbor has informed me she has a few green tomatoes for me from her garden and this recipe is how I plan to use a couple of them this weekend.  Yum!

Hope you all have a beautiful weekend!

Green tomato jam - yum. Loved your pic of green tomatoes in the last post. Now what is "liquid smoke"? Sounds like some sort of bizarre, Frankenstein food that comes out of a laboratory. But I'm assuming as you're using it, that it's not that bad . . .??

This looks yuuuuummy. I've been looking for good sandwich-fillers that would go well with chutney. I think this might do the trick nicely!

Hi Kathryn, thanks. The jam turned out very nice. As for the liquid smoke, it is smoky food flavoring in a water base with no chemicals or lab stuff - though I suppose there might be some that do have things added. It's often made with either hickory or mesquite. There's a discussion about it here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/397618

Monica, it sure was good and I'm liking the sound of that tempeh with chutney, too. smilies/smiley.gif
