| Oh, y'know, the standard-issue strawberry smoothie: frozen strawberries, strawberry yogurt, strawberry Kefir, and some wheat germ or protein booster for good measure. If I could get the recipe, though, I'd be on a liquid diet of my favorite Indian restaurant's Mango Lasse (like a smoothie). To die for. |
Here's 2 I like: 1) Pear and kale smoothie: http://vitamix.ahoy.com/recipe/recipe.cgi/0/450/ 2) Watermelon Romaine. No recipe, it's just watermelon, romaine lettuce, and water or ice. It's from Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko. |
My favourites are from the Fresh/Juice for LIfe cookbook. One is a matcha smoothie: pineapple, vanilla soy, banana, cinnamon, matcha. Another is a coffee smoothie with espresso, banana, almond butter and vanilla soy. (Don't be surprised if I forgot one of the ingredients.) The restaurant also has a mango ginger lassi that I love, but haven't made. Tonight I'm planning on making a smoothie from my website: banana and peach with orange juice and mint. |
I actually did a post all about my favorite smoothie concoctions: http://veggiegirlvegan.blogspo...iling.html |
| I've been doing frozen fruit with seltzer water recently, with just a touch of a sweetener. Works with all kinds of fruit! |
I had a savory smoothie for dinner the other day (which the recipe called it a cold summer soup, but I preferred drinking it in a glass to spooning it from a bowl) 2 cups carrot juice, 1 avocado, 1/4 teaspoon curry powder, 1 tablespoon lemon juice mix all in a blender I think I may have put a little bit of ginger powder in it as well. It was tasty! |
my two favorites: kale/banana/pineapple/water blueberries/banana/peanut butter/almond milk the one someone mentioned above with the matcha sounds so great, i'm going to go try it right now! |
| My favorite is carrot and cucumber, but I'm afraid I never had a recipe! Every time I make it I just fly by the seat of my pants and it comes out fine, so I'm sure you'll do okay. Carrot, cucumber, a little apple juice to ease the blending process. Voila! Deliciousness in a glass and good for you too. If you have carrot juice, that might be better than apple, I never tried it though. |
| I like adding some sprouted quinoa in the blender. Adds a different texture and taste, not to mention the health benefits. |
| I keep wanting to try kiwi fruit in a smoothie - one of these days I hope it will appear on my blog - I quite liked mashed pumpkin in a smoothie too which is on my blog - had it with apricot juice banana and berries - and I have enjoyed some leftover cooked rhubarb in a smoothie |
| I love to add dried fruit to my smoothies, especially prunes. For some reason I enjoy sucking the little buts up through the straw. Something to chew on! |
| I love kiwi fruit, banana, spirulina and a touch of agave if it's not sweet enough already. I am also keen to try Chocolate and Zucchini's fig, orange juice and rosewater smoothie. Another favourite of mine is nut milk (and nut butter to be really decadent), frozen berries, vanilla, banana and a touch of acai. Cinnamon, pear and yoghurt is also good. |
Hi. My two favourite smoothies are: #1: blend: 1 block silken tofu (unsweetened or flavoured), 1 cup soy milk, 3 tablespoons organic peanut butter (or to taste), 1 tablespoon honey (or to taste). Serve chilled or over ice. #2 blend: 1 cup frozen yogurt (vanilla), 1 banana, 1 cup orange juice, 1/2 cup frozen fruit (optional). Serve at once. |
WOW! I love the sound of all your ideas!! I'd of never thought to use many of the ingredients mentioned like sprouted quinoa, kale, romaine, matcha, avocado, curry, prunes, pumpkin, cucumber... and even orange juice, which I love but, oddly enough, have never put in a smoothie before. And I forgot all about mango lassi! You guys are the best and have me inspired now! I think I'm going to have to go down the list and try every single one of these! Thank you all so much for sharing!! |
My favorite is super simple: 1 banana, the riper the better 1 cup frozen blueberries baby spinach packed tight to the top 8 0z water |
I like yogurt/milk or fortified soymilk in my smoothie as I know without these I'm going to struggle to get all of the calcium I'm going to need. I normally have a few flavourings in that I can add to smoothies to pep them up a bit; rosewater, floral honey, vanilla extract, these kinds of things |
I'm sitting here drinking my favorite smoothie right now: 3 ripe bananas 1 C water ~2 C baby spinach Blend and eat. YUM! |
Today I made watermelon-romaine smoothies for me and hubby using small chunks of watermelon I put into the freezer last night. Sooo simple but very good and very refreshing! Thanks for sharing this idea, Dee - we'll definitely make this again! I appreciate you all sharing your great smoothie ideas! Can't decide which I'll make next as they all sound so good!! |
My smoothies vary based on what fruit juice I have available. Cranberry/raspberry juice makes a really good base--pretty red color--and OJ is always good. Basic ingredients: - Juice and/or vanilla soymilk - A banana if I have it - Some frozen or fresh fruit: Nectarines, berries, plums fairly often because my mother-in-law gives me big bags of frozen plums each year, whatever started to get overripe that I cut up into chunks and froze, melons--different every time - A scoop or two of ground flaxseed, which gives a slight nutty flavor and gives me omega-3 - Sometimes a scoop of soy protein powder, which can taste a little sandy so don't overdo it. - Yogurt if I have it |
here goes the best recipe for a well rounded smoothie that is great after workouts: 3 ice cubes .75c of peach juice .5c of greek yogurt 1tblsp flax oil Blend for a few seconds then add 5 frozen strawberries 1 banana 1/2 scoop of protein isolate and continue to blend for ~1 min. Enjoy! |
| Try blending up tofu and vanilla with berries. Protein and you can add a dash of greens to it or flax seeds. |
| This sounds really simple, but frozen mangoes, a few frozen strawberries and pineapple juice. My favorite!! |
Peanut butter and jelly smoothies! It's similar to what you normally do. I like to use soy milk for them. I put in banana, frozen berries (I prefer strawberries but will use whatever's on hand), some oats, and some peanut butter. Yummy! |
Adding flax is a great idea and I'm going to include flax oil (thanks Nik!) in my next smoothie. Right now I've got some fresh carrot juice, frozen raspberries, bananas, oranges and spinach. It's not a combo I'd of considered before reading all your wonderful comments and ideas and I'm looking forward to it! Jenny, I'm liking the sound of your PBJ smoothie. Now why didn't I think of that! Emm, simple is good and your mango, strawberry, pineapple sounds wonderful and I know my husband would love this one as well! Barb, how lucky for you to get all those plums every year! Thanks for sharing and for the tip about the soy protein! |
How about durian? It is a popular fruit from Thailand and Malaysia. The smell may put you off but once you taste it, it is heaven. You could make a smoothie out of it. |
| I stick with simple things and love banana smoothies. Just a touch of chocolate syrup if you want, with milk, ice cubes, and banana. That with strawberries is good as well. |
1/2 cup OJ 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, peaches, or both 1/2 banana (a whole banana each day is a lot of sugar) 1 scoop unsweetened whey protein or vegan protein if preferred (Alive is super good when it's hot outside). Blend and drink as a meal replacement or supplement - yums! |
This one is similar to some already posted, but with a bit of a variant: Almond milk, frozen bananas, organic peanut butter (though almond and cashew are great as well), and the special ingredient--medjool dates! Medjool dates are more expensive than standard dates, but so worth it. It adds a whole new dimension to the banana/peanut butter combo, both in taste and texture! |
Ryan, I love Medjool dates! Last fall I was on a kick making banana-date-walnut smoothies that I really liked a lot. I haven't tried the dates in any other smoothie combos though and am sure it would be wonderful! Michael, I've heard about durian and the smell thing. Kind of makes me grimace a little to think about it though I'll admit to being a bit curious! Sarah, what is the Alive you mentioned? |
| I make one similar to one found at Jamba Juice. Soy Milk, frozen non-fat yogurt (or regular non-fat yogurt), banana, peanut butter, add ice and blend. |
| Cassie, that's similar to one I make a lot before exercising: almond butter, banana, date and soymilk. You could use any nut butter, I guess. I use unsweetened soymilk as the dates make it very sweet! |
My favorite post-workout smoothie is: - 1 scoop of protein powder (I used chocolate) - 1 cup of frozen raspberries - 2 weetabix crumbled - 1 cup of 1% milk Blend. This makes a thick smoothie. Sometimes I add some plain yogurt. Another option I like is to replace the raspberries with chopped orange. |
Sherri, thanks for sharing your great sounding smoothie idea. I haven't tried peanut butter in a smoothie yet, but will definitely do so. Kat, liking the sound of that date smoothie with almond butter. Will try that out for sure. I still have yet to make the espresso smoothie you shared earlier too. I might try freezing some leftover coffee in a shallow container to use instead of espresso (as I don't ever have any at home). Vicki, Weetabix? I would have never thought of that and could see that working well. Love the sound of chopped oranges in there, too. Thanks for sharing! |
Great topic + thread of comments! My favourite smoothies are listed here: http://pattycake.ca/taxonomy/term/10 - my all-time favourite is the Rich Chocolate Smoothie (http://pattycake.ca/recipes/chocsmoothie), which tastes like a rich delicious milkshake - except it's healthy |
| Here is a new one for us: Frozen bananas with a bit of nutella! We used plain yogurt, but this could be made with rice milk and would be just as good. It's hard to beat the banana and chocolate combination :-) |
| Add fresh Spinach! It may make it a bit green, but it sure does make it creamy and delicious! |

This place I eat at regularly has what "bubble tea", which is more or less a smoothie (made with soy milk to begin with, even!). You get to pick a combination of flavors and I always go for avocado and chocolate, it may seem odd but it is delicious. The avocado gives it a nice creamy texture and since I love the fruit anyways it's a hit for me. And the reason it's 'bubble tea' is because there are huge tapioca pearls at the bottom of the cup and they give you a fat straw so you can suck them up and chew on them. I haven't tried recreating this at home but it seems like it could be done. =) Otherwise this summer with all the abundance of fresh blueberries I had my smoothies consisted of, soymilk, peanut butter, blueberries, a banana, and whole flax seeds. Simple, but so delicious! |
I lived in Vancouver when I first came to Canada and among the many unfamiliar things I noticed around were these bubble tea shops. I had never heard of bubble tea before and was so curious. I tried one with strawberry and I loved it - so refreshing! I never saw any with chocolate before, let alone avocado and chocolate, and it sounds amazing. I could see that making a wonderful smoothie combination. Thanks so much for sharing, Danielle! Thanks again for all your comments. So much smoothie inspiration here!! |
I work at a cafe that makes the best smoothies ever, and this is my favorite: -2 frozen sliced bananas -Handful of frozen strawberries -Handful of frozen blueberries Put the fruit in a cup, fill the cup with juice (I like to use cranberry apple juice, but soymilk works well if you want less sugar) and blend. |
Best smoothie there is: Small chunks of frozen cucumber 6-10 frozen baby carrots 1 handful raisons Pumpkin Pie spice frozen berries frozen banana flax seeds oats (optional) nut milk or coconut milk or just water |
Sam, that sounds great. Blueberries and strawberries are two of my favorite ingredients for smoothies. Brandon, frozen baby carrots? I would have never thought to try that. Love the sound of the pumpkin pie spice in there too. Thanks for sharing! |
