And I'm wondering... What do you eat when you're not feeling well? It's miso soup for me, with a little silken tofu, scallion and a squeeze of lemon. And you? Comments (19)

| The flu is running through our whole family right now but I have managed to escape it so far! Toast and tea is about the only thing I want when my tummy can't handle much! |
|
Soup, soup, soup and soup. It's all I want, it's all I crave and fits in with the desire for good nutrition, without having to chew or work at the food. But - I also want someone else to make it for me! Oh yes and a smidgeon of ice-cream never goes astray either. |
|
Brothy soups like pasta fagioli or matzo ball soup. Spicy food like veggie chili, dal, curries... I have this idea that the spices "kill" the cold. I'm not sure if it's true, but at least it tastes nice. =) Monica |
| Soup for sure. I'm just discovering how much I love miso soup.... But for me the ulitmate comfort food is my mom's homemade applesauce. It's not quite the same when I make it, though any homemade applesauce will do. I even ate it in frozen chunks when I had my wisdom teeth out! Even if I'm not sick, and I just want a little comforting, this is where I turn. Feel better! |
| no lie, i totally fall back on your veggie pot pie/stew recipe when i need comfort food--i use a liberal hand with the thyme, rosemary & black pepper, and something about that combination with all those veggies really makes me feel warm from the inside out. |

I am sorry you are not feeling well--I hope you feel better soon! I guess it depends on WHAT is not feeling good, but I like soup, tea, smoothies, crackers, and sparkling water or ginger ale. I hope you have someone to MAKE all of these things for you! Courtney |
| Woke up today with an awful sore throat. Had ginger lemon tea before going back to sleep. Later in the day I had some chicken, and then in the evening I had eggs. Generally I stick to bland things when I'm not feeling well and things I can have without spending too much time in the kitchen (don't have the energy to cook). |

Soups, too! I had a Jewish granny so chicken soup with kneidlach (matzo balls) is right up there. I also love miso soup (all the time; not just when I'm sick!) with a handful of cooked brown rice thrown in, some sauteed shiitake mushrooms and chopped spring onion (scallion, I guess!). Hot and sour soup is the best thing I've found for a cold, and I particularly like it with rice vermicelli and any filler of choice - tofu, mushrooms etc. And curries! I like them hot enough just so they make your nose run a little (is that gross?) - particularly good when you're feeling congested. Best of all, though, honey and lemon with ginger. I grate fresh root ginger into a cup, pour on boiling water, leave it to steep for a few minutes then stir in a heaped teaspoonful of my favourite honey and the juice of a freshly-squuezed lemon. Amazing. And really really good for you. Have you tried it? Let me know if you do and how you find it! |
| I've been feeling the same way, and I went for a nice spicy soup yesterday also. But I also swear by Zinc lozenges. I started taking them two nights ago when I could just feel something coming, and I really think it kept it away. I've heard that this is purely psychosomatic, but hey...if it works in my head enough for me to not get sick, who cares?? |

I make a special soup--it sounds maybe a bit harsh but it really works. Simmer ginger, garlic, cayenne pepper and lemon in a pot and then add some rice (which is easy to digest) and some veggies for nutrients. It is amazing. jh |
Thank you all for your comments and well wishes! Feeling much better! I've never tried hot ginger tea, which is a little odd considering I have made ginger tea to drink cold. Will definitely try it while in its still hot stage the next time around. I appreciate you all sharing. |
| When I feel the symptoms come creeping I chop up a LOT of garlic and grab a french stick of bread. Combining the two with butter or nutelex equals some potent form of garlic bread. Delicious and it usually slays whatever virus trying to wage war against me. |
